Music Therapy for Rehabilitation
The licensed music therapists at the Institute for Music and Neurologic Function (IMNF) specialize in physical rehabilitation and speech rehabilitation after all types of brain traumas. Patients include those who have experienced stroke, traumatic brain injury, Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and Parkinson’s disease. Patients are able to participate in IMNF music therapy programs through CenterLight Health System or as a private patient through the IMNF Music Therapy Professionals Practice.
The music therapists use a variety of different techniques to help patients. Percussion instruments, like drums, are very common because of the ease of learning to play them. Vocalization, like singing, is especially helpful for speech rehabilitation, and recorded music can be beneficial for movement rehabilitation.
